Akwaaba - Ghana Tourism
Ghana is a safe and interesting country to visit. Ghanaians are very friendly and hospitable. They have often been called the friendliest people in Africa. A foreigner is welcomed with a smile and with a word Akwaaba! In the street you can often hear children calling 'oburoni' waving their hand and asking politely, "How are you?"

Ghana is a country of contrasts. In the biggest towns you can find modern shopping centres and beautifully built new housing areas, five star hotels, international banks and the most modern technology. It is one part of Ghana. In towns many families enjoy pipe water and electricity. In the countryside there are lots of villages with no drinkable water and with no electricity.

Ghana is a paradise for a tourist. The nature of Ghana is very unique, many different zones of vegetation can be found and studied there. It is even possible to go to a rainforest and feel its extraordinary atmosphere. Ghana has the largest man-made lake, Lake Volta, which was formed when Akosombo Dam was built. In Ghana a traveller can also admire water falls, visit botanical gardens or go to a safari to follow the life of African wild animals.

If you are interested in the history of the country Cape Coast Castle is worth visiting. There you will see and hear what life was like for thousands and thousands of men, women and children who were kept in very small dungeons not knowing what was waiting for them. It was the time of the slave trade.

If you prefer to spend your holiday sunbathing on beaches or at hotel pools,or going to bars and night clubs, it's possible in Ghana, too. It is also very cheap to play golf and tennis in Ghana. During holiday ladies may enjoy going to a local beauty salon and men to the barber's. Ghanaian tailors and dressmakers are very skilful, too.

Ghanaian food is tasty, nourishing and hot. There are a lot of restaurants, and in most of them you can find in addition to Ghanaian foods also international foods, even hamburgers and pizzas.

Best of all in Ghana, however, is to get acquainted with Ghanaians and their way of life. One way to do this is to go to church on Sunday morning. About 70% of Ghanaians are christians and normally all families go to church every Sunday dressed in their best clothes - in honour of God.
